Železná Ruda (Klatovsko) - The town of Železná Ruda is seeking an investor for a one hundred twenty-hectare golf area. The construction of an eighteen-hole course, which the town has been planning for three years, is set to begin next year. The location will become significantly more attractive, said Mayor Michal Šnebergr to ČTK. The construction costs will be in the tens of millions of crowns.

"After all the complications, the last December council meeting will approve the inclusion of the entire area in the zoning plan," he added. According to the mayor, the town will not announce a tender because the plan has been well-known to interested parties for a long time. Originally, there was interest from the German side, but in the end, the proposal could not be negotiated there, and everything was resolved by Czech Železná Ruda. "That’s why there was a delay. Now we have made significant progress, and we expect that mainly Czech investors will get involved. There is interest even in this difficult time, as the project is attractive due to its location in a mountainous area and in the vicinity of Železná Ruda," explained Šnebergr.
The property structure is not complicated. The town owns a minimum of land, most is held by Lesy ČR and a private owner. They agreed with the proposal. The town wants the investor to utilize the golf areas for cross-country skiing in winter, similar to the operation on the German side. According to the mayor, the more than two-year preparation time for this challenging project is solid, especially considering that the area will be in a protected landscape area and the project underwent a fundamental change in building law. "Golf and the new cable car to Pancíř are key activities in the concept of changes for the development of the town and its surroundings," added Šnebergr.
Professional facilities are requested by tourists who would travel to the town from Zwiesel, located 17 kilometers away, where the nearest course is, and from the practice field Liščí near Nýrsko. Golfers do not want to stay in one place and like to move around the area, the mayor added.
The course would be created on open meadows on the left side of the road to the state border. "Our condition is to preserve the natural character of all areas as much as possible," the mayor added.
In the Plzeň region, professional courses are located in Alfrédov in Tachov, in Dýšina and Spálené Poříčí in Plzeň, and in Darová in Rokycany. Another sixteen-hectare championship course with nine holes will be created within two years in the border area of Liščí louka near Nýrska.
