Tasovice (Blanensko) - In Tasovice in Blanensko, wind power plants will ultimately not be built. Local residents and representatives opposed the construction. The company Wind Energy Systems initially wanted to build two towers, but reconsidered its plans due to unsuccessful negotiations with the locals. Miloslav Šebela, the company's representative, said this today. The company wanted to invest 170 million crowns into the project and is now planning other projects in the area. Currently, there are no wind power plants operating in Blanensko, nor is this source of electricity widely spread in the region. The only one exists in Břežany in the Znojmo area. Several other plants are now planned in its vicinity. However, the South Moravian regional office is not particularly inclined towards energy production using wind. They claim that the conditions for wind power plants in the region are not favorable and also point to the disruption of the landscape and the environment. This is what the residents of Tasovice feared as well. Two power plants, each with a capacity of two megawatts, were to be built on a plateau known as Na vršku. This area has the best weather conditions. However, surrounding villages and local residents opposed the project, and ultimately, the representatives sided with them. For the small municipality with 70 inhabitants, this will mean losing millions of crowns that would have been received for the operation of the power plants. "We'd rather find money somewhere else, about 90 percent of residents were against the construction," added Mayor Antonín Ševčík. According to European directives, the Czech Republic is to produce eight percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2010. Currently, it stands at about 4.4 percent, with hydropower plants making up the majority. Experts say that wind has the greatest potential for the future.
