Prague - The Austrian architecture of the interwar period as well as contemporary architecture will be brought closer by exhibitions and lectures that will take place in Prague and Brno. The Week of Austrian Architecture is organized by cultural institutions from both countries and will also highlight shared connections, such as the participation of Czech architects in Austrian competitions or Austrian investments in architecture in the Czech Republic.

Today, an exhibition titled Austrian Interwar Architecture - The Architecture of Red Vienna will begin at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University. Through the photographs of Walter Zednicek, Vienna's architectural works from 1919 to 1939 will be presented, which shaped the appearance of the Austrian capital. Photographs of residential buildings, kindergartens, offices, and baths, combined with architectural plans and period posters, showcase the diversity of municipal architecture in Vienna. More information about the mentioned architecture can be found at www.dasrotewien.at.
Another exhibition will start in Brno on March 11 at the Architecture Gallery and will be titled 99+ Stories of Architectural Competitions. It will focus on the role that architectural competitions play in contemporary European culture, how they influence the work and thinking of architects, and what impact they have on the innovativeness and complexity of winning proposals.
The first discussion evening will take place at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague on March 9. Czech architects Martin Rajniš and Jaroslav Zima and Austrian creators Christoph Pichler and Johann Traupmann will present. The topic will be Austrian-Czech architectural ties of the 1960s, the successes of Czech architects in competitions for Linz and Vienna, or current Austrian development in the Czech Republic. Another debate will take place in the same location a day later and on March 11 in Brno at the Faculty of Architecture of the Brno University of Technology.
The event is jointly organized by the Architectural Journal Era 21 and the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague, the faculties of architecture of the Brno University of Technology and Czech Technical University, Wonderland - Platform for Architecture from Vienna, and the Brno Center for Architecture.
