Prague - The first phase of new offices has been completed in the Prague industrial area of the first-republican car manufacturer Praga. The renovated historical building E Factory, which is the main object of the entire transformation area Pragovka in Vysočany, will have over 8,700 square meters of administrative space. This is roughly a third of all the planned completed office space in Prague for this year. Representatives of the E Factory project informed about it in a press release. The reconstruction has two phases so that the operation of studios and galleries can continue throughout the reconstruction.
In addition to offices, studios, and galleries, the project is also expected to include spaces for gastronomic enterprises. The newly renovated project should have a total of approximately 27,000 square meters. The first completed phase has 18,000 square meters, and the renovation of the second phase, covering the remaining more than 9,000 square meters, is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
Among the first tenants of the completed part of E Factory are, for example, Pragovka Gallery, Factory Kafe, Domsys, Apoco, U&We, Bito, and the development company Mount Capital, which is behind the overall transformation of the industrial area. "Our goal is to create a place where creativity, business, and community life meet. The E Factory building already offers modern facilities for companies and artists, while remaining open to the public," stated Tereza Uhliarová, marketing director of Pragovka.
The original buildings of the Praga car factory with a reinforced concrete structure were built between 1917 and 1918 by architect Stanislav Bechyně. After the production under ČKD ceased, the local elevator shafts, which had previously been a significant symbol of the area, fell into disrepair. They were demolished in the autumn of 2002. On the grounds of the former largest Czechoslovak automobile factory, the Libeň O2 arena was built, and apartments, shops, and offices arose in the surrounding area.
The E Factory building was created between 1930 and 1933 according to the design of architect Josef Kalouse. Since 2003, it has been a protected cultural monument. The reconstruction, according to the project's creators, respects the original architecture while also meeting the technical requirements of modern office buildings.
