Olomouc - A creative center built from container cells is to be established in Olomouc with the joint efforts of the city hall, Palacký University, cultural institutions, and private investors. The planned center will offer IT technologies and a space for the creative and artistic activities of young people. This was announced today by project founder Jaromír Zavřel.
According to him, the architecturally unique center is to be composed of container units. It will provide facilities for companies and individuals in the field of creative crafts, such as information technology, architecture, marketing, art, and design.
"In the cells, there should function, for example, creative workshops, music rehearsal rooms, art clubs, as well as tattoo studios, flower workshops, pet services, and offers of ecological and high-tech products. The facility will include modern forms of mobility," Zavřel stated.
This week in Olomouc, representatives of the city, university, Museum of Art Olomouc, theaters, festivals, advertising and design agencies, and local businesses discussed the project. "It has been confirmed that the project has potential and a target group in the city and will be beneficial to the economy and culture. We are now looking for the most suitable location for the construction of the modular creative center," Zavřel noted.
According to the rector of Palacký University, Jaroslav Miller, Olomouc has significant creative potential. "The creative center could be a way to open up space for talents to realize themselves, thus combating the harmful brain drain," added the mayor's deputy, Matouš Pelikán (KDU-ČSL).
Palacký University already participated in mapping the cultural and creative sector in Olomouc and its surroundings in 2016 and 2017. Experts then found that local companies and entrepreneurs in this field generate nearly five billion crowns annually. More than 1,200 entities operate in the cultural and creative sector in the Olomouc region, employing approximately 5,000 people.
