Liberec - By the end of June, builders will complete the construction of a new building for the Liberec city hall, which is being created by renovating the former library. All public service departments will gradually move into the building in four waves. People will start using the office on a trial basis from September 1, spokesman for the city hall Martin Korych told CTK today.
"The craftsmen are finishing inside and outside the building. Computer networks and glass office walls are being installed in the interior," he added. The restoration of the outer facade with all original decorative elements also needs to be completed. The renovation of another city hall headquarters took 15 months and its cost rose from the originally planned 275 million to 330 million crowns. Additional millions will be spent on furnishing the building with furniture. The city will pay for its new headquarters in installments. For 16 years, it will annually pay 13 million crowns and then pay off the remainder.
The budget was affected, for example, by the adjustments to the glass walls. The city hall had to meet the firefighters' demands for additional fire ventilators, and at their request, the shape of the skylight was changed. Fire safety measures also include a backup diesel power source.
The entrance glass hall of the office is shaped like a triangle, its edges are lined with counters where civil registries, ID cards, passports, driver's licenses, taxes and fees, or business licenses will be processed. The glass walls are intended to improve the transparency of public administration because officials will not be hidden when dealing with clients. City hall employees will no longer have to fear attacks from aggressive individuals. There will be information and a ticketing system at the entrance to the hall. "The move will mean at most a one-day interruption of service for individual departments," Korych noted.
About 140 of the 345 employees of the city hall will move to the new building. After the renovation of the library is completed, people will find city hall employees in six locations. 100 will remain in the neo-Renaissance town hall, others will be in the adjacent building Díla, in the Uran building near the railway station, on Mariánská street, and in the Liebieg villa on Jablonecká street.
