Krnov – In Krnov in the Bruntál region, the renovation of the abandoned school building on Míru Square for the needs of the Elementary Art School has begun. The reconstruction will cost 80 million crowns. Musicians are expected to start learning in the new space in the school year 2023/2024. This was stated today by Krnov spokesperson Dita Círová.

"Finally, we will have a 21st-century school where all taught disciplines will be under one roof. Children, as well as parents, will no longer have to deal with the complicated and often dangerous crossing from one building to another. This also relates to better organization of the entire operation, including savings on financial costs for the current operation of our buildings," said Kamil Trávníček, the director of the Krnov Elementary Art School.

The school currently occupies two buildings, which no longer technically or spatially meet the school's requirements. Moreover, its management often faces complaints about noise during rehearsals of the Young Krnov Wind Orchestra in the building on Revoluční Street, which is adjacent to a residential building. "In addition, we will gain a new concert hall that will undoubtedly increase the prestige and competitiveness of our school," added the director.

The planned renovation of the school building, which was built in 1892, includes a complete refurbishment of the premises and the extension of a concert hall for one hundred visitors. The hall consists of two sections: the main hall and the foyer. The school premises will feature classrooms, a rehearsal room for the wind orchestra, offices, restrooms, and technical facilities.

Collective disciplines, namely visual arts, dance, and literary-drama, will be located on the third floor. Visual artists will have two classrooms and a ceramics workshop; the dance classroom will have a special floor surface suitable for children's dance studios, mirrors, and handrails on the walls, and the drama discipline will also have its own classroom.

After the reconstruction, the school will be fully accessible. For persons with disabilities, access to the building will be ensured via a ramp from the courtyard, and there will be an elevator on the central staircase.
