In K.Varech, 20,000 households will receive letters against the construction of the hall

Karlovy Vary - In Karlovy Vary, 20,000 households will receive letters in their mailboxes urging them to stop the construction of a multifunctional hall. The authors of the letter, who are also members of the petition committee against the construction, want to call on the city's residents to stand against its alleged indebtedness. The sending of the letter will be supported by another protest rally planned for next week. This is reported by today's Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) in the regional supplement.
The unusual letter has already been sent to the printing house by its authors, and it will be distributed immediately after printing. "Our goal is to stop the current work on the hall and the sale of the city's historical assets. By this, we particularly mean the houses on Lázeňská Street. We want them to remain in the city's ownership," said MfD one of the members of the petition committee, Jaroslav Fujdiar.
According to the Deputy Mayor Petr Keřka, it is no longer possible to stop the construction, as the city could lose a 150 million state subsidy due to the deadline extension. However, Fujdiar does not believe this. "In the contract between the city hall and the consortium of companies building the hall, there is a clause that allows the investor to change the scope of work without penalties. The city can draw the state subsidy this year and next year. Therefore, it would not lose the funds," stated Fujdiar.
The purpose of the protest rallies and meetings, which organizers plan to continue holding, is to allow people to publicly express their opinions on the construction of the multifunctional hall in its current form and under existing financial conditions, noted Fujdiar. The city plans to cover one billion in costs with a 600 million loan, a 150 million state subsidy, and the rest from its own resources.
The petition committee against the construction of the hall wants to reach out to each of the councilors and know their opinion on the drawing of companies that are building the arena. They want to know whether they consider it to be legitimate. Fujdiar is referring to the nationally known video recording in which a lottery is held to select five companies from a total of 16 entities that applied for the contract to build the hall.
