In Jablonec, part of a building has collapsed, they will close road 14 starting Thursday

Jablonec nad Nisou - A part of the reconstructed building housing the vocational workshops of the Secondary School of Crafts and Services collapsed in Jablonec nad Nisou. No one was injured. However, due to this, the first class road 14 on Podhorska street will be closed from Thursday until further notice. The detour will take place via side streets. Today, the spokesman for the region, Filip Trdla, informed ČTK about this in a press release.

"The closure will begin on Thursday between 07:00 and 08:00," the spokesman said. According to the governor Martin Půta (SLK), this is currently the only possible solution. "I understand that this will complicate transit through Jablonec, but safety is now the priority. By Monday (December 17), I will want to know from those responsible all possible variants for continuing the project and minimizing the transportation restrictions to the time necessary for the essential security work," the governor added.

The building is being renovated as part of the Vocational Education Center project for over 78 million crowns. The plan included the establishment of modern workshops for skilled trades such as jewelers, blacksmiths, and glassmakers. During the reconstruction, part of the brick wall on the first and second floors of the building collapsed. "At the time of the collapse of the brick wall, there was no one in the building. Shortly after the wall fell, the structural engineer issued a plan to initiate security work, aimed at preventing the loss of stability of the entire structure and, in particular, to protect the health and safety of individuals moving around the building," Trdla pointed out.

According to Deputy Governor for Education Petr Tulpa (SLK), the regional leadership was aware that the reconstruction could be complicated. For this reason, no classes were held in the building after the construction began. "I am sorry that the entire project for the construction of the Vocational Education Center in Jablonec nad Nisou is at risk. The deadlines will clearly be extended," he added.

During the closure of part of road 14, the detour routes will be via the streets SNP and 5. května in Jablonec.
