Jablonec nad Nisou

Jablonec nad Nisou - The demolition of the Jabloň department store has begun in Jablonec nad Nisou. A modern shopping gallery, Central Jablonec, will be built in its place and is expected to welcome its first customers in March 2017. The new shopping center has already required the removal of a gym and the wooden structure of the Koliba restaurant. Demolition work started during the summer holidays, and on Friday, heavy machinery made its first incursion into the department store, said Markéta Hozová, spokesperson for the Jablonec city hall, to ČTK yesterday.

The construction of the new Central Jablonec shopping gallery between Generála Mrázka and Máchová streets on the site of the old Jabloň store, two parking lots, and a market is financed by the development group Crestyl. The construction of the new shopping center is the largest investment in the city in recent years. Construction work has significantly restricted parking on Generála Mrázka, Liberecké, and Komenského streets in the city center. "Traffic in the surrounding streets has also changed," Hozová pointed out. Motorists need to be especially cautious in the one-way Liberecké street, where they may now encounter construction vehicles coming from the opposite direction.
Crestyl aims to build a modern shopping gallery with stores and underground garages in the center of Jablonec. The project has been in preparation since 2008 but was delayed by the recession. In light of the current real estate market, it will also be smaller than originally planned. The original plan accounted for up to 17,000 m² of retail space, but now it will be a quarter smaller. There will also be fewer parking spaces. While the original project accounted for 228 spaces, the new plan has prepared 182.
"The investor is expected to present the whole project to the public in November," added Hozová.
