Olomouc - A new multifunctional building will grow in the historical center of Olomouc near the central square by February next year. It will include apartments, shops, and offices. Most of the 24 apartments in the future building are already sold. The construction of the building, which is financed by a domestic development company, will cost 56 million crowns. "The project preparation lasted for a year and a half. This is because realizing a building in the historical center of the city is always very complicated. The architects worked on the design for a year," project director Tomáš Veverka told reporters today. He added that the company has been consulting with heritage preservationists from the beginning. Based on their comments, the project was modified. "However, the changes were not fundamental. We only slightly reduced the height of the building, adjusted the roof windows, and modified the roughness of the facade," Veverka stated. The building will consist of 24 apartments and five non-residential spaces intended for shops, services, and offices. About 75 percent of the apartments, which will have an area from 50 to 107 square meters, are already reserved or sold, according to representatives of the investor. "Their price, considering the attractive location, started at 30,000 crowns per square meter," said Jiří Hlinka from the marketing department of the development company. According to experts, the prices of apartments in new buildings on the outskirts of the city are around 23,000 crowns per square meter. The start of construction of the multifunctional building was preceded by archaeological research in the area between Uhelná and Mlýnská streets. During this research, archaeologists discovered, among other things, the foundations of a medieval oven, which apparently served for baking bread. They estimated the origin of the oven to be from the 13th to 14th century.
