Česká Kamenice - Square of Peace
Česká Kamenice (Děčínsko) - In Česká Kamenice in the Děčín region, a completely new square will be built by November next year, which will be the second in the historical center of the town. The construction will cost 23 million crowns and started today. Mayor Miroslav Weis said during the construction commencement that the city had estimated the renovation cost to be around 25 million. He is therefore pleased that the company which ultimately won the contract will carry out the work at a lower cost. He added that the city will pay 7.5 percent of the construction cost, the same amount will be covered by a grant from the Ústí region, and the rest will come from EU funding. The main square in Česká Kamenice was renovated about ten years ago, and for six years, the city has been trying to secure funds for the remainder of the town center. According to Weis, the new square and its surroundings will visually resemble the already renovated part of the center. The town hall plans for the entire area of the second square and its surroundings to be covered with new paving. Weis stated that the construction also includes the reconstruction of the bridge over the Kamenice River and the adjustment of its waterfront. There will be additional parking spaces, greenery, and several water features.
