Náchod - The residents of the twenty-one thousand strong Náchod have, after years, been rewarded with a renovated Karlovo Square in the city center. The town hall today ceremoniously opened the square, which was previously an unpaved dusty area. The renovation, which included the construction of a new fountain, cost the city treasury approximately ten million crowns. "The square was an unsightly corner of the city. Its reconstruction was one of the priorities of the town hall," said Jaroslav Rohulán, the deputy mayor of Náchod to ČTK. The newly paved square has new lighting and benches. There are only 16 parking spaces for cars on the square, while the majority of the square is a quiet zone adjoining the pedestrian zone of Kamenice. In the future, the city wants to also modify the end of Karlovo Square, which touches the park on the hill towards the Náchod Castle. "This reconstruction depends on how successfully we can acquire the relevant plots of land," said Rohulán. The investment in the renovation of Karlovo Square does not conclude the improvements to the communications in the city center. This year, the town hall plans to spend approximately 16 million crowns to repair Českoskalická Street, and about ten million crowns is to be invested in the repairs of the communications on Husovo Square. "Subsequently, we want to continue with the repair of Komenského Street, which connects with Českoskalická," said the deputy mayor.
