Žatec (Lounsko) - The Žatec City Hall has reached an agreement with representatives of the company Agile to build a Lidl supermarket in the area of the former paper mill. The city was originally supposed to receive 4.5 million crowns for agreeing to the construction, but the new agreement involves an exchange of land and buildings, reports today's North Bohemian edition of the newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD).

According to the newspaper, the city will allow the construction of an access road to the store for 3.5 million crowns, and for the same amount, it will purchase buildings in the area of the former paper mill, including the historically protected villa.
The Deputy Mayor of Žatec, Aleš Kassal, described the exchange as a favorable compromise. "It was the only option to ensure with 100% certainty that the paper mill buildings would not be demolished. There should be shops in the paper buildings that will complement Lidl's offerings. We also plan to include apartments there, and in the largest building, a depository for the local regional museum will be established," he stated.
