In the area of Jihlava's Tesla, there will probably be apartments, shops, and offices

Jihlava - The industrial area of the Tesla company in Jihlava is set to transform over the next three years into a locality with apartments, shops, and offices. A private investor who purchased the factory near the city center this spring presented this proposal to the Jihlava city hall. His plans also include the construction of a senior citizens' home, which the city of Jihlava is also preparing. The city hall is currently considering halting preparations for its own retirement home, estimated at around 300 million crowns. This was stated to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Radek Vovsík.
"I am convinced that what a private individual can do, the municipality does not need to do," said Vovsík. The city is still planning to build a retirement home with one hundred beds on land near the Tesco hypermarket. It has already paid two million crowns for the project preparation. However, according to Vovsík, it is a large and expensive facility for which it is not possible to obtain a subsidy from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Therefore, the city is preparing the project for European funds.
The private company Corbada wants to build a facility with 70 beds for seniors in part of the industrial area, and reconstruction is expected to start as early as next year. Vovsík stated that such a cheaper project could potentially receive state support. Whether the city hall will indeed halt the preparation of the city retirement home will be considered by the representatives for the first time at the meeting on October 23.
The Tesla area on Havlíčkova Street covers about 11,000 square meters. Tesla moved into the former tobacco processing factory in 1958. It is now gradually vacating it as it builds its new production facility in the Jihlava industrial zone. In recent years, three-quarters of its production has already been moved there. The company employs around 900 people.
Corbada won the tender and paid about 70 million crowns for the factory. Radek Vávra, a representative of the company, told ČTK. "At least a third of the area should be focused on the social sector - there should be a retirement home and social housing for young families," he stated. The remaining area will be shared between large apartments, shops, and offices. According to preliminary estimates, Jihlava could gain 100 to 200 apartments and 400 parking spaces.
The company is also considering the establishment of an incubator for new entrepreneurs; however, a similar proposal is also part of the regional project. According to Vávra, no decision has yet been made about the future appearance of the area. "We are currently specifying the ideas, negotiating with the city and the region," he said. According to him, the area is already two-thirds empty. No major demolitions are planned, as most of the buildings are in good condition. Despite the renovations, the industrial appearance of this locality should be preserved.
