Ústí nad Labem will repair two parts of the town hall, it cannot afford more

Ústí nad Labem - The city of Ústí nad Labem will repair part of the town hall. Mayor Jan Kubata (ODS) told reporters today that the reconstruction will concern two parts, the meeting room and the atrium. The city would like to repair the entire town hall, but so far it has only managed to obtain part of the necessary 250 million crowns from European grants.
    The reconstruction of the meeting room will cost 33.7 million crowns. The city will have the windows replaced, new equipment installed, carpets laid, and the wooden paneling and stone cladding repaired. The project also includes the installation of sound and voting equipment. The Ústí councilors currently vote by raising their hands, and there are no records of how each person voted.
    In the atrium of the town hall, the entire area will be removed. First, workers will lay new insulation to prevent water from leaking into the underground garages, then the atrium will be paved with granite slabs. A new fountain and a stage for various cultural events will be created there. The reconstruction of the atrium will cost 36 million crowns.
    The city hall building was completed in 1962. A year later, it was declared a cultural monument for its architecture. In 1994, an attempt was made to revoke the building's monument protection. However, the city hall has remained a monument.
