Liběšice - After five years, the Ústí nad Labem Region has managed to sell the castle in Liběšice in the Litoměřice area through an electronic auction. The interested buyer will pay 27 million crowns for the property, which includes a listed Art Nouveau greenhouse and other buildings. The starting price was seven million crowns lower. This was stated by the region's spokesperson Magdalena Fraňková. Properties in Most were also auctioned successfully during the electronic auction.
Three interested parties participated in the auction of the Liběšice castle, of which only two made bids. They made a total of 58 bids before the hammer fell. The Baroque landmark, which last served as a facility for the mentally disabled, was offered by the region for the first time in 2017 for 40 million crowns. The price for the Baroque castle gradually decreased. The auction, which took place on Tuesday, was the twelfth in sequence and was the successful one. The buyer must now deposit the money into the account of the Ústí nad Labem Region within thirty days.
The last residents left the castle in 2015. According to the then regional leadership, this was because the property was expensive to operate. Since then, the castle has only been maintained, and its condition has worsened.
The castle residence was built by the Jesuits between 1738 and 1752, presumably according to a project by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer. After the order was abolished in 1773, the castle was owned by a religious and educational fund. In 1838, Ferdinand Lobkovic bought the estate, and in 1871, textile magnate Josef Schroll acquired it, who converted the residence into a comfortable castle. After 1945, it was nationalized and adapted into a retirement home. The main building is three-winged in the shape of a U and has five floors.
The region also managed to auction off garage buildings with land in Most-Velebudice for 6.2 million crowns and an administrative building with land in the same location for 22.7 million crowns. "Honestly, I didn't expect that we would sell three out of five offered properties right away in the first auction. The fact is that the current favorable market situation and the transition to a modern auctioning method are working in our favor. I am especially glad that once the new owner of the Liběšice castle pays the rest of the price, it will pass into private hands, and the new owner will surely have appropriate use for it. The region did not have that, and the property was therefore deteriorating," said regional councilor Tomáš Rieger. The region is planning to organize another electronic auction within three months.
