Hradec Králové - Charles University is preparing to commence construction of the first phase of its campus in Hradec Králové. Minister of Education Josef Dobeš (VV) has signed the provision of a grant for the project to build a university teaching and research center worth almost 400 million crowns. This was stated today by the dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University (UK) in Hradec Králové, Miroslav Červinka.

"We are now preparing the announcement of the tender for the general contractor of the construction, we expect that the actual construction work will begin this year," said Červinka. The university, which has a medical and pharmaceutical faculty in Hradec Králové, will acquire almost 7,000 square meters of space that will be available for teaching and research.
"The new facilities will expand the existing ones, which are no longer sufficient to meet the current demands for teaching, science, and research in terms of both size and technical support requirements," stated Červinka. The construction of the first phase will be financed 85 percent by the European Union, with the remaining funds provided by the state from its budget. The new building should serve both faculties starting from September 1, 2014.
The Charles University campus will be built in close proximity to the Hradec Králové faculty hospital, and its construction will be divided into several phases. "The progress of further construction will depend on the success in obtaining funding," said Červinka. The total cost of building the campus is approaching around 2.5 billion crowns. So far, both faculties operate in several locations around the city. The last investment by the Faculty of Medicine of UK in Hradec Králové was the opening of a new teaching center in the faculty hospital complex in November 2005 for almost 85 million crowns.
