The valley near Chomutov is spanned by a road bridge at a height of 62 meters

Černovice (Chomutovsko) - Builders today completed the load-bearing structure of the bridge, which is part of the new road I/7 from Chomutov to the border with Germany. The bridge spanning the valley with the Hačka stream stands 62 meters high and its construction cost 460 million crowns, said René Komínek, director of the Chomutov office of the Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD).
A specialty of the 336-meter-long and 22.5-meter-wide bridge is its narrow pillars, which rise up to 48.5 meters high, as well as the technology of bridge deck casting. "Originally there were to be two bridges next to each other. Due to time savings and a more environmentally friendly approach, the project was revised. The construction lasted two years, and this year's mild winter significantly helped us," said Komínek.
According to him, drivers will start using the new road section on schedule, i.e., at the beginning of July. The costs for the construction of the detour, which is 6.8 kilometers long, reached 3.1 billion crowns. The detour, which will connect to the already completed section from Křimov to the border crossing with Germany at Hora Svatého Šebestiána and, on the other side, to the viaduct and the southwestern bypass of Chomutov, will relieve the city of truck traffic.
The set of three road constructions from Chomutov to Hora Svatého Šebestiána, spanning 13 kilometers, is part of ten constructions aimed at expanding the expressway R7 and the connecting road I/7, linking Prague with Chomutov and further to Germany over a distance of 47 kilometers. The costs will reach 13.78 billion crowns, and the work schedule anticipates their completion by the end of 2010.
