The council of the Praha 2 district approved a study mapping the possibilities of organizing farmer's markets in Tylovo Square at their meeting on July 20, 2010, and agreed to start work on the project documentation. They are responding to the growing popularity of markets with fresh agricultural products in the capital. In Praha 2, markets currently take place every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Rašínovo nábřeží waterfront.
Tylovo Square was selected from a number of previously identified locations (among them were also considered náměstí Míru and Karlovo náměstí) as the most suitable for this purpose. Several aspects played a role in the selection, primarily the specificity of Praha 2, as an urban district located within a city heritage zone, where the rules for organizing markets are different.
The aim of the study was therefore not only to identify a suitable location but also to provide a functional and aesthetic solution for the sales stalls, corresponding to the other urban furniture. The considered locations were evaluated in terms of their location, size, historical tradition, and local customs.
Given the overall assessment, Tylovo Square was deemed the most suitable, as it meets all the criteria. The preserved historical documents also indicate that it was a traditional market place supplying food to the entire Vinohrady district. As late as the end of the 19th century, the square was referred to as Market Square.
For the needs of the farmer's market, some modifications would need to be made here. These would involve the installation of underground containers and a new design for the water area and drinking fountains, but primarily the placement of at least twelve multifunctional stalls that would serve as benches when folded.
