Litomyšl

Litomyšl - Litomyšl in the Svitavy region is still addressing the intensity of light from the Tricolor, having already reduced its brightness once. However, the light still bothers the residents living nearby. The light column by Václav Cígler and Michal Motyčka was unveiled by the city at the bus station last October to mark 100 years of statehood. This was reported to ČTK by Mayor Daniel Brýdl (Generace 89).

The Tricolor is in the colors of the Czech flag, white, red, and blue, and illuminates about a third of the column. The artwork cost one million crowns, with 800,000 crowns provided by donors.

"As a compromise for the opponents and supporters of the Tricolor, we will acquire a special colored film that will be applied over the illuminated part of the artwork. The layer is designed to let through only a fraction of the current illumination towards the residential development, thereby reducing light pollution,” stated the mayor.

At the beginning of January, technicians reduced the intensity of illumination to ten and 30 percent of the original values for the red and white lights, while the blue light now shines at just one percent of its original strength. In May, the council considered a proposal from two people who wanted to turn off the Tricolor completely or relocate it elsewhere. The film seems to the city to be a suitable compromise.

"The films will be available in red, blue, and white versions, and they will highlight the artwork during the day without increasing the illumination when the colors of the Tricolor are muted and less visible,” said the mayor.
