World-renowned architect Boris Podrecca will arrive in Ostrava

Ostrava - World-renowned Slovenian architect Boris Podrecca will come to Ostrava on Monday, April 4, to present an exhibition of his work. The opening will take place at 5:00 PM in the Architecture Cabinet at the House of Art and at 6:00 PM in the Exhibition Hall on Sokolská 26. ČTK was informed about this by the press spokesperson of the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava (GVUO), Jana Šrubařová.
    The exhibition will showcase 28 of Podrecca's realized and unrealized designs, including eight models. "Noteworthy are the extraordinary communication buildings, including the partially realized Northern Railway Station in Vienna and the design of a unique metro station in Naples," Šrubařová stated.
    The seventy-one-year-old Podrecca lives in Vienna, where he studied architecture. Among other things, he is the author of the Millennium Tower skyscraper in Vienna and the Mons hotel and conference center in Slovenia's Ljubljana. Recently, he won a major international competition for the development of the area in Italian Bolzano. Šrubařová mentioned that the only realizations by Podrecca in the Czech Republic are the interior of the Austrian cultural institute on Prague's Jungmann Square, which he designed in the 1990s, and the Oskar Kokoschka Gallery in Prague.
    “His probably most famous building is the Millennium Tower in Vienna, which stands 202 meters tall. The building, with its glass façade, has the floor plan of two circles. It serves as a shopping center, office, and residential building,” stated Damjan Prelovšek, an expert on Podrecca's work, in a press release from GVUO. According to him, the exhibition opens a view of modern Central European creation.
    "Podrecca's architecture is a continuation of the legacy of everything from which multi-national Austrian art has drawn upon: it is full of Mediterranean sun and views into the infinite distance of the Adriatic Sea, northern rationalism, and the traditions of English and French art," said Prelovšek.
    GVUO director Jiří Jůza expressed his pleasure at being able to welcome another star of world architecture in Ostrava. "In this respect, the Architecture Cabinet at the House of Art is a completely unique institution of this type in the Czech Republic," Jůza added. The exhibition will last in Ostrava until June 3.
