Plzeň - The largest Šumava ski resort Ski&Bike Špičák plans to start construction of an alpine-style restaurant in spring 2019. The building will also include a ski and bike rental, service, storage, administrative background, and two floors for accommodation. It is expected to be completed by winter of the same year. The cost will be about 50 million crowns. This was reported by the director of the resort, Vladimír Kasík. According to him, the resort currently lacks a restaurant with a quality environment.

The three-story building will be constructed on the resort's land near the lower station of the cable car. The self-service restaurant will be on the first floor and will also operate in the evening with service. The ground floor will have ticket counters and rentals, and the upper two floors will contain 14 to 17 apartments. Access to the chairlift will be from the restaurant terrace and from the street between the buildings. "We want to apply for a building permit as soon as possible and deal with all the paperwork, and if everything goes well, we would like to start construction in 2019," said Kasík. However, the construction will also include a new transformer station, which could delay the project.

The design of the building was negotiated by the resort with the Administration of the Šumava Protected Landscape Area for three years. The conservationists wanted a gabled roof, which the resort resisted because the building is accessible from all sides and snow would fall from the roof. "It was resolved by having a gabled roof, but the vertical walls are pushed out, and melting snow will fall into the valley and not to the ground," he stated.

According to Kasík, the main delay was caused by changes in the regulatory plan, which the Železná Ruda council approved two weeks ago and which has already come into legal force. "The town of Železná Ruda added other intentions of different entities to the change in the regulatory plan, which again required the approval of the relevant authorities," Kasík added.

The completed winter season at Ski&Bike Špičák was, according to Kasík, one of the best since the commissioning of the four-seater chairlift in 2005/2006, attracting 120,000 skiers compared to 129,000 skiers that season. It lasted 117 days with over 3.5 meters of snow. In the summer, about 40,000 visitors arrive, including 8,000 bikers.

"Excellent dining will raise the prestige of the resort," said Kasík. If people do not get it, they prefer to go a little further to the German Javor. Today, visitors can order simpler hot meals in the Blaženka and Hanička huts from 1972 and 1975, which offer tourist accommodation.
