Student Competition: Corus Student Architects Award

The British company Corus has announced an architectural ideas competition aimed at students from European architectural schools.

Corus is a large international company engaged in steel structures and other uses of steel in various fields of human activity. It places great emphasis on development and innovation. It offers students the opportunity to try designing steel structures through unconventional competitions - this year’s theme is H₂Ouse - living on the water.
Participants should therefore address the problem of construction in flood-prone areas, meaning houses that are at risk of occasional flooding or are permanently situated right above the water level. The result should be a housing solution for a diverse community of people in structures that have minimal impact on the surrounding nature. Proposals are expected to not only expand the traditional idea of living on the water, such as a boat. Living on the water is associated with a somewhat bohemian lifestyle not only in Britain, so very unusual forms are also welcome.

Registration for the competition is open until February 23, 2007, with submissions due no later than May 18, 2007. A total of £5,000 will be distributed among the best proposals.
