Vyškov - The start of construction work on the new Australia pavilion at the Vyškov zoo is planned for November. However, it will depend on whether the weather permits, as investment officer Dagmar Nepeřená told ČTK today. The pavilion, costing approximately 2.5 million crowns, should be completed by the beginning of the summer season.
The zoo has postponed the pavilion construction several times. According to Nepeřená, it should obtain the building permit within a few weeks and focus on selecting a contractor. "We would like to announce the tender by the end of September, and the contractor should be known by the end of October," Nepeřená stated. Therefore, the foundation work could potentially start in November, according to her.
The zoo is home to approximately 750 animals. It specializes in native breeds of domestic and farm animals, but visitors will also find some that belong to endangered species.
The planned walkthrough pavilion aims to evoke an authentic atmosphere of Australia for its visitors. Kangaroos and budgerigars are expected. Its price is currently preliminary, pending the budget from the designer.
Vyškov zoo was opened in a small area as a Corner of Living Nature in August 1965. In the 1980s, it became a winter shelter for circus animals, and the zoo was transformed from the corner in 1991. Ten years ago, the zoo connected with a dinosaur park that presents about 50 partially moving sculptures of prehistoric lizards. Both facilities are visited by around 170,000 people annually.
