Statistics: The average apartment in the Czech Republic has nearly four rooms, including the kitchen

Prague – The average apartment in the Czech Republic has almost four rooms, including the kitchen. This follows data from last year's census, which was highlighted by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) today. According to them, more than 2.9 million apartments have the kitchen as a separate room, which is over 70 percent of occupied apartments for which information about the kitchen was obtained.

According to the ČSÚ, the average number of living rooms (including kitchen) per apartment reached 3.9. The largest portion consists of apartments with four rooms, including the kitchen, totaling 1.3 million. There are 1.2 million apartments with five or more rooms, while nearly a million apartments have three rooms.

The census revealed that there are 1.2 million apartments with a kitchenette in occupied homes. A decade earlier, the census did not differentiate between apartments with a kitchen and those with a kitchenette.

The number of apartments with a kitchenette is likely to increase in the future. The market mostly offers new apartments referred to as +kk, which means they come with a kitchenette. "The kitchen, together with the living room, is the center of family life, which is why it is currently standard to purchase a kitchen practically along with the apartment as part of the client service provided by developers to owners of newly built apartments," stated David Jirůšek, spokesperson for the development company, to ČTK.

According to the census, there were 4.48 million occupied apartments in the Czech Republic last year, which is 9.1 percent more than in 2011. The ČSÚ already stated in July that, by area, the most common apartments in the Czech Republic range from 60 to 79 m². Almost 1.2 million of them were present across the country last year.
