Prague, in comparison to the world metropolises that mostly compete for hosting the Olympics, is a small city situated in a relatively complex topographical configuration. The construction of Olympic sports facilities and other necessary infrastructure will fundamentally influence its organization, functioning, and developmental tendencies. What remains here after the Olympics must be unconditionally utilized for further life. All preparatory steps must be directed towards the benefit of the city's development.
The further preparatory steps taken by the city leadership should be based on qualified, systematically created expert materials from all sectors. In terms of potential consequences for the future life of the city, the quality of materials in terms of urban planning is particularly important. These materials must be based on a thoughtful and conceptual development strategy. The current state and quality of urban planning in Prague do not correspond to the ambition of the city representatives to make such fundamental decisions as the location of Olympic sports facilities and other necessary facilities for the Olympics. From generally available materials, there is no clear conceptual strategy for the development of Prague. It cannot therefore be demonstrably established what the impacts of placing facilities and sports venues in various locations will be on the overall urbanism of the city. Additionally, the urban plan, due to its over-specification and unreasonable detail, often requires extensive, administratively complicated, and prolonged changes in the face of the slightest differences in investment intentions. The current state of the urban plan seems more of an obstacle than a clear guide. We therefore recommend, from the perspective of the expert public, to start preparations by updating urban planning and expert analyses of individual Olympic complexes.
It is essential that the city's further steps be managed with the specific responsibility of specific individuals, who will be enabled to create the necessary structure of teams, working committees, experts, and advisors from all necessary fields, including architecture and urbanism. The result should be a fully transparent, systematic, and not random process of preparing Prague's candidacy for the Olympics, at the end of which will be the identification of the most suitable solution for integrating sports venues and the built infrastructure into the city's organism for the benefit of its inhabitants.
