Liberec - The Regional Council of the Northeast today allocated 270 million crowns from the regional operational program (ROP) to eight projects. Six are from Liberec and one each from Pardubice and Hradec Králové, all of which will be implemented next year. The most money is directed towards the construction of a hospice in Liberec, the regional council's spokesperson Eva Jouklová informed ČTK today.

The EU will contribute 122 million crowns for the reconstruction of the former infants' home and children's home in Liberec, and the Liberec region is expected to add almost 22 million crowns. However, the actual cost of reconstruction will be known after the completion of the tender process, with the deadline for bids on Thursday. The winner will have only ten months to complete the contract, which should be finished by the end of November next year. The hospice will have 28 single rooms. The Liberec region is one of the few in the country that does not yet have such a facility.
Further funds from the ROP will go towards the modernization of sports facilities in Liberec. Two football grounds will be reconstructed, with modifications in Krásná Studánka costing about 15.5 million crowns and in Vratislavice nad Nisou nearly 28 million. Two gyms in the Liberec districts of Ruprechtice and Pavlovice will also be renovated. Over 16 million crowns are needed to remove the emergency condition of the hall in Míru Square, and nearly 15 million for the reconstruction of the former school services center. Two sports organizations, a table tennis club and the Sports Aerobic Liberec association, will financially support the project. The table tennis players are expected to gain facilities in the adjacent hall that they built ten years ago. Several exercise halls will also be created in the renovated building with parameters for competitive aerobic, and both gymnastics and step will have their facilities there alongside aerobics.
In Liberec, a Center for the Support of Historical Motorism is also expected to be established by May next year. It will be in Doubí, and its construction will require 18.4 million crowns.
Hradec Králové received 34.9 million from the ROP for the reconstruction of the White Tower in the Grand Square. It will add 8.3 million crowns to the grant.
Pardubice will renovate the neglected Na Špici park for 39.3 million crowns. "We will restore the paths, furniture, and public lighting in the park, build a children's and multipurpose playground, construct an educational pavilion, install new play elements, and revive the greenery," said Pardubice Mayor Štěpánka Fraňková.
The Regional Council's committee distributed funds for the last time this year. Following the currency intervention of the Czech National Bank, the budget of ROP Northeast should increase by an additional 400 million crowns. "There are still 1.9 billion crowns remaining in the program. However, the crown may strengthen again, and decisions on announcing further calls will be made next year," said office director Zdeněk Vašák. It is already certain that the amount earmarked for the reconstruction and modernization of second and third-class roads should increase by a quarter of a billion. The transfer of this amount, originally intended for tourism-related projects, was approved by the European Commission this week.
