Prostějov - The renovated interior will welcome visitors to the City Theatre in Prostějov next season. This year’s season has already ended, and craftsmen have come to the hall in the Art Nouveau National House. They will occupy the space for about half a year, and the renovation will include the repair of seats, replacement of floor coverings, wallpaper, and modification of the buffet. The audience will be able to return to the auditorium only in November.

The renovation of the interior has already begun with the removal of the seats. "We need to label each element because each seat is original and must be returned to its original place. Otherwise, it won't fit anywhere else," said Petr Vrága from the contracting company to ČTK. All seats will be newly filled and re-upholstered, and their wooden structure will undergo thorough renovation.
"The restoration of this essential theater equipment will cost just over one million crowns. All materials used must meet strict fire safety standards and must also comply with the requirements of heritage protection workers," said the theater director Alena Spurná to ČTK today. However, she did not reveal the future color scheme of the theater hall. She wants it to be a surprise for the audience. According to dramaturg Eva Zelená, the original seats designed by architect Jan Kotěra did not survive in the theater. The current ones are about ten years old.
The theater has a capacity of 513 seats. Theater performances have been held in the Art Nouveau National House for a hundred years. However, there is no permanent ensemble in the city, so guest theaters come. An exception was HaDivadlo, which was established in Prostějov in 1974 but left after ten years, according to Zelená. The City Theatre is visited by up to 60,000 spectators annually.
