Písek - The new rector of the Film Academy Miroslav Ondříček in Písek has today become the film architect Jindřich Goetz. The scenographer, who has worked on approximately 120 Czech films, has replaced screenwriter and dramaturg David Jan Novotný in the position. Novotný has led the school since 2004, when it began its education. According to Vladana Terčová from the academy's management, the new rector, who has taught at the school from the beginning, wants to create a new study structure. "We would like to create certain studios, each supervised by prominent filmmakers. The camera studio would, for example, be represented by cameraman F. A. Brabec, and the directing studio by director Jiří Strach," Terčová told ČTK. According to her, a famous personality should not only lend their name to each studio but should also be a leading educator. "For students, it's also a good calling card for the future when they are applying for jobs," Terčová stated. She added that today 15 students from the academy graduated in Písek. Goetz, who is a graduate of the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in the field of applied architecture, has participated in the scenography of more than 120 Czech films since 1966. In 1996, he received the Czech Lion for the best artistic achievement for his collaboration on the film by director and cameraman F. A. Brabec, Král Ubu. Goetz is a favored collaborator of Brabec, who also chose him for the film adaptation of Mácha's Máj. From 1991 to 1995, Goetz was also the director of AB Barrandov and is a member of the Czech Chamber of Architects, the European Film Academy, and the Czech Film and Television Academy. The Film Academy Miroslav Ondříček in Písek is a private selective art university with a bachelor's degree program. Students can study in the fields of audiovisual creation, image, editing, and sound in audiovisual creation, organization and management of audiovisual work production, and animated creation.
