Prostějov - The Prostějov City Hall is preparing the revitalization of the central T.G. Masaryk Square. The project will invest up to 30 million crowns with the help of European subsidies. This was stated by Zdeněk Fišer (ČSSD), the deputy mayor of Prostějov, to ČTK. "The long-term goal of the city leadership is to revitalize the center. Next year, we will celebrate 100 years of the City Hall, so we want to make T.G. Masaryk Square as attractive as possible," Fišer stated. The interior part of the square between the city hall and the Prior department store is set to be renovated, where the city plans to replace old paving stones with new stone paving. "The green strips in front of the museum will be preserved, but two narrow flower beds will be replaced with one green area with an avenue that will be created towards the north at the edge of the roadway. The area in front of the museum will then serve, as it has historically, for various events," Fišer noted. The project also includes new furniture, public lighting, and mobile benches for cultural events. "The unsightly concrete flower pots currently in the square will be removed and replaced with flower beds planted with perennials," added Deputy Mayor Ivana Hemerková (ODS). The exact budget for the project has not yet been set by the councilors, and they estimate that the project will require 20 to 30 million crowns. The city hall will apply for a grant from the Central Moravia Regional Operational Programme by the end of April, from which it can receive up to 85 percent of the costs. "If we are successful and receive the grant, we expect to complete the revitalization project of the square by May next year," Fišer added.
