Kutná Hora - The project "Disappeared Kutná Hora" is a metaphorical journey into history, mapping the face of the city listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list from the 17th to the 20th century. It includes a digital archive of 1000 images, which will be made available on the internet on December 1, said Aleš Pospíšil, a historian from Kutná Hora and the project's author, to ČTK. "Kutná Hora has an extraordinary collection of historical sources, mainly visual," he added. According to him, it is not widely known that the photographic collection of Kutná Hora is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic. It was founded by the Austrian monument photographer Andreas Groll (1812 to 1872), who was the first to photograph Prague and Plzeň as well. He took photographs of Kutná Hora during his two visits to the city in 1856. The aim of the project is to concentrate and preserve an exceptionally valuable collection of visual sources of Kutná Hora. It should serve the professional community for research purposes as well as a basis for quality care of the historical core of the city. At the same time, it should raise awareness among residents and visitors about the architectural heritage of Kutná Hora. About 1000 historical visual sources documenting the form and transformations of the city have been converted into digital form. Murals, oil paintings, graphics, and historical photographs come from 16 state or private collections and heritage sites. They will be published on www.zmizelakutnahora.cz. The project also includes a book of the same name published by Paseka. It contains a representative selection of 150 photographs and reproductions with commentary. A selection of original visual sources of the city will be exhibited in the Kutná Hora Hrádek. The exhibition will also present unique models of St. Barbara's Cathedral and the Italian Court from the 19th century. On the day of the opening on December 1, a seminar for professionals will take place. The exhibition will last until April 14.
