Prague - 255 years ago, on September 9, 1754, the baroque column of the Holy Trinity in Olomouc was solemnly consecrated in the presence of Empress Maria Theresa and her husband. This significant monument was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. The Holy Trinity Column, built to the glory of God as a thanksgiving for the end of the plague epidemic, is located in the Upper Square. It was created according to the design of builder and privileged imperial architect Václav Render. Construction began in 1716 and was completed 38 years later. A whole range of Olomouc craftsmen and artists contributed to its final appearance, including sculptor Filip Sattler. Today, the thirty-five-meter column is the tallest sculpture in the Czech Republic, and it includes a small chapel. The baroque monument was restored at the turn of the second millennium. The Olomouc city hall, together with the state, allocated 15 million crowns for this purpose.
