Prague - The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has announced a public contract for the construction of a tram line from Malovanka to Strahov. The value of the contract amounts to 1.02 billion crowns excluding VAT. The company informed about this in a press release today. The construction is expected to last 18 months. Work will begin in the spring of next year. The new line is planned to be operational in the fall of 2027. The line will ensure better transportation connections to the Strahov dormitories and the planned new stadium of the football club Sparta.
The double-track line will be 1.3 kilometers long and will run from Bělohorská Street through Vaníčková Street to Strahov, to the university dormitories and to the existing bus turnaround at the intersection of Vaníčková and Turistická Streets, where it will end in a loop at Stadium Strahov. The investment includes a complete reconstruction of Bělohorská Street between the intersections with Myslbekova and Vaníčková Streets, as well as the reconstruction of Vaníčková Street, which will also be widened.
"The operation of this line will enable the existing bus transport from Strahov to the Dejvická metro station to be replaced with a more capacious and locally emission-free tram transport with a higher degree of separation from individual road traffic," said DPP's technical director Jan Šurovský.
Last year, DPP completed the extension of the tram line to Pankrác, and the year before that, it launched lines from Divoká Šárka to Dědina, from Modřany to Libuš, and from Barrandov to Slivence. The city is also constructing the Dvorecký Bridge between Prague 4 and 5, over which trams will also run, and in the future, tracks will connect via Jeremenková Street through Budějovická to Michle. This year, DPP has announced a tender for the line between Olšanská and Habrová and the Libuš - Nové Dvory line.
