Prague - The Prague City Hall has announced a tender with an estimated value of approximately 7.12 billion crowns excluding VAT for the construction of a transportation terminal at Smíchov station. This information was obtained by ČTK from the public procurement bulletin. The construction will include the establishment of a bus terminal above the station platforms, where buses from the Na Knížecí area will be relocated, the construction of a P+R parking lot west of the station, and adjustments to Nádražní Street. The Railway Administration (SŽ) is also modernizing the station for billions more and plans to renovate and expand the station hall.
The terminal is set to connect trains, the metro, city and intercity buses, and trams all in one location. Underpasses will lead from Nádražní Street to the station platforms. The station itself will be located on the same level as it is today, while above it an relocated bus terminal from the current Na Knížecí station is planned. The metro will be situated below the terminal. All levels and modes of transportation will be interconnected.
According to a recent statement by Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), the construction has a building permit and is expected to start next year. SŽ has already begun the modernization of the train stop and track systems for 5.1 billion crowns. It is also planning the renovation of the station building, for which project documentation is currently being prepared. This will include replacing the current southern wing with a four-story new building featuring shops and restaurants.
Smíchov station was opened as the second major station in Prague in 1862. The current station building was constructed in the 1950s, as the original buildings were not preserved, partly due to damage during World War II. The station is one of the busiest railway hubs in Prague, alongside the main station - which was connected ten years after its establishment - and Masaryk station.
