Prague - The capital city wants to build a parking garage in Břevnov near the speedway stadium at Markéta. It is to be part of a large sports complex planned by the Ministry of the Interior, with an Olympic shooting range in the basement of the parking garage. This was communicated to ČTK by the spokesperson of the city hall, Vít Hofman. The city hall has already announced a tender for a company that will prepare the project. The city is also preparing other parking garages, having recently selected a designer for a parking garage near the Depo Hostivař metro station and for two more in Zličín.

The building with an entrance from Ankarská Street is intended for both athletes who will train in the planned complex and for visitors of sporting events. According to Hofman, its capacity is to be 481 parking spaces. "The basement of the parking garage will not be intended for parking but will be used as the space for the Olympic shooting range," added the spokesperson. The city has now published a contract for the designer, with an estimated value of 18 million koruna. If everything goes smoothly, construction could begin in two to three years and will take about the same time.

According to earlier information, the Ministry of the Interior wants to build a large sports complex around the existing speedway stadium for about a billion koruna, which could include, for example, an ice rink, swimming pools, or a biathlon tunnel. The latest information about the project is more than two years old, and current statements from the ministry are being sought by ČTK.

As for financing, the city should pay for the parking garage, while the ministry will cover the construction of the rest of the sports complex. Hofman stated that according to the prepared study, the city hall estimates the costs of constructing the building at over 300 million koruna, but the real price will depend on the final form of the project and the tender process.

Recently, the city hall selected a contractor for the project documentation for the construction of three more parking garages, which are to serve as P+R parking lots. Near the Depo Hostivař metro station, a seven-story parking garage will be built between Sazečská and Černokostelecká streets, on the site of the existing P+R parking lot. The construction is expected to increase the current capacity of 178 parking spaces to almost four times that amount. Underground garages for about 500 cars with the possibility of further expansion will be located at Zličín metro station, and just a little further at the current depot, an above-ground structure with a capacity of more than 700 vehicles will be created. A new metro station should be located nearby.
