Prague - The capital city will prepare a proposal for the next steps to address the emergency condition of one of the bridges connecting the Vltavský bridge to the Hlávkův bridge. The material will be prepared by the city's Institute of Planning and Development (IPR) in collaboration with the strategic investment department of the city hall. The council, composed of representatives from ANO, ČSSD, and the Coalition of Three (Greens, KDU-ČSL, STAN), decided on this at its last meeting today. Due to the emergency condition, the bridge had to be temporarily closed at the end of October.

According to the document approved by the councilors, IPR will examine options for the reconstruction of the entire traffic hub. It is intended to be a non-binding information document. Representatives of the new coalition of Pirates, Prague for Themselves, and United Forces for Prague (TOP 09, STAN, KDU-ČSL) recently stated that the current council should not decide on the future fate of the bridge and that the coalition prefers a solution that would not require the construction of a bridge, but rather that cars and trams would intersect at a regular intersection. Currently, cars drive over the bridge while trams pass underneath it.

The bridge at Vltavská was closed by Prague's Technical Road Administration (TSK) overnight from Tuesday, October 23 to Wednesday, October 24, based on information from the company Pontex, which was conducting its diagnostics. TSK then had to close part of the Bubenská road leading to the main road in the direction from the center to the Exhibition Grounds that runs over the bridge for safety reasons. Traffic was also closed beneath the structure, so trams did not run on Vltavská. TSK then had the bridge temporarily supported and its representatives stated that the damaged structure would likely need to be demolished.
