Prague will give more money to the model competition than to the dance festival

Prague - The Prague City Hall will support the finals of the emerging models competition with a significantly higher amount than, for instance, the international festival of contemporary dance creation and physical theater Tanec Praha. The Elite Model Look event will receive 1.9 million CZK according to today’s decision of the city council as part of a partnership, while the festival will get 300,000 CZK. In total, the city has contributed about 45 million CZK to 84 projects, said councilor Milan Richter (ODS) to journalists.
    The organizers of the modeling event requested three million CZK, while the Tanec Praha festival wanted four million. According to Richter, this year Tanec Praha has already received nine grants totaling 6.2 million CZK and has long-term support. The competition will, according to the councilor, contribute to promoting Prague worldwide. Last year it received 1.5 million CZK. "It is also necessary to realize that partnership is not only for culture but also for leisure," emphasized Richter.
    The amounts for the projects were proposed by the committee for culture and leisure. The highest amount, nine million, will go to the Prague Spring festival. This grant, given its size, will still have to be approved by the representatives.
    Today, Richter reiterated that representatives of the Initiative for Culture have previously criticized that the city allocates too much money to events supported by partnerships. This year, tens of millions were shifted to grants, with only 25 million CZK allocated to partnerships in the budget. The Initiative has once again spoken up, this time stating that there is too little money, the councilor mentioned. Therefore, the city increased the item from reserves.
