Prague - Prague wants to cover the busy Spořilovská street. This was agreed upon today by the Prague councilors, informed Deputy Mayor Tomáš Hudeček (TOP 09). It is not yet clear how the metropolis would finance the construction, nor in what variant it would be built. The costs for the covering could be in the range of billions of crowns, and construction is likely to take several years. Dozens of thousands of cars travel along Spořilovská street daily, and local residents have long complained about the traffic. "For Prague, it is a key area that requires immediate solutions, provided that the most effective financing can be found," Hudeček stated. According to Hudeček, Prague also wants to explore the possibility of obtaining European funding. Prague has examined several variants for how Spořilovská street could be covered. The tunnel could be made of reinforced concrete or steel construction with a glass or possibly polycarbonate shell. It will also depend on whether it will be covered with soil and whether a tram line will run through it. Depending on the chosen variant, the construction costs will vary. According to Hudeček, the committees for transport and urban development of the Prague council will discuss the variants.
