Prague - Prague wants to have a study developed that would address the use of spaces around metro stations. The document is intended to serve as a manual for potential development around the stations. It is to be prepared by the Institute of Planning and Development (IPR), according to a material approved by the Prague councillors today. The final form of the document is expected to be completed by the end of December 2016. There are currently 61 metro stations in Prague.
"The strategic document will be designed to objectively compare individual stations for the needs of strategic and investment decisions," the material states.
The document is expected to include information on the condition of individual stations, maintenance costs, a description of the surrounding public spaces, and land will be categorized according to ownership. "These are often spaces that supplement squares and services are concentrated here, for example. Particularly along line C, these spaces are in absolutely deplorable condition," said Deputy Mayor Matěj Stropnický (SZ/Trojkoalice).
The IPR is now supposed to start collecting data on all stations. Data collection will last until March 2016, after which work on the document will begin. According to Stropnický, a proposal for the modification of ten stations will be created at the beginning of 2016 in a pilot project, and the city would start this already next year. The IPR has already developed a trial concept that involved the modifications of the surroundings of seven metro stations: namely Staroměstská, Muzeum, Lužiny, Anděl, Pražského povstání, I. P. Pavlova, and Černý most - in this document, the stations are only described, without ownership relations or further action proposals. "It may not be included in the pilot project. I have already said that priority is given to residential estate stations," Stropnický stated.
The councillors also discussed and approved the preparation of a development concept for the Táborská-Na Pankráci area in Prague 4. Several reconstruction or modification projects are being planned for this area in the future, including the repair of the tram tracks. "The planned physical interventions, which affect a large part of these streets, are a unique opportunity to evaluate the already existing qualities and to intervene in places where public spaces show deficiencies," the material approved by the councillors states. The document is to be completed by the end of this year.
