The civic association For Old Ostrava invites you to a May charming walk:
Charming Walk in Český Těšín
Saturday, May 13, 2006 Meeting at 10:30 in the lobby of the Český Těšín railway station Guided by architectural historian Martin Strakoš
The charming walk in Český Těšín will focus on the construction of a new town, created based on the arbitration division of Těšín and the town itself in 1920. The western industrial part of the city then fell to Czechoslovakia, while the eastern historical and social part went to Poland. The Czechoslovak part, directly related to the railway, which already connected the town with Nový Bohumín in 1869 and with Košice in 1872, found itself without basic urban infrastructure. Therefore, it was necessary to build the missing seats of urban institutions, churches, and complete new parts of the town. Among other things, municipal buildings, primary and secondary school facilities, a hospital complex, new churches, a cemetery, a fire station, a slaughterhouse, and a number of residential and commercial buildings were established. During the walk, we will become acquainted with the works of relatively unknown local architects and builders, such as Eugen Fulda, Eduard David, Karel Valoušek, and Vilém Richter, as well as some realizations by leading representatives of Czech architecture of the 20th century (Jaroslav Fragner, Ludvík Hilgert).
