The flood model of Plzeň showed where flood zones cannot be built upon

Plzeň - There should not be a complete halt to even passive flood zones in about 11 locations in Plzeň. This was shown by a new assessment of the mathematical flood model commissioned by the Plzeň city hall. Until now, each building in the passive zone was assessed separately within the flood model. Now the city received a comprehensive answer regarding the complete halt of zones across the entire area, said Deputy Mayor Petr Náhlík (KDU-ČSL) to ČTK today.
According to the results, officials and city representatives will decide whether it is desirable to restrict or prohibit further construction and land modifications in the passive flood zone, for example, in the zoning plan.
The Water Act significantly restricts construction and activities in the active flood zone, but the restrictions are not as strict in the passive zone. Investor interest in construction in these passive locations remains constant. Five years after the floods that caused significant damage in Plzeň, it is slowly growing. The city hall wanted to know how the water would behave if it allowed construction on all parcels.
According to the new assessment, problems could arise during floods when halting passive zones, among other places, on the Mže in Malesice and Radčice, on the Úhlava in Hradiště and Štěnovice, and on the Úslava in Koterov or near the shooting range. "In many of these places, however, there is a certain historical memory; people know that construction should not take place there," Náhlík added.
