Prague - The peninsula near Holešovice harbor, sometimes referred to as "kosa," will be connected to the left bank of the Vltava River by a new footbridge. Prague city councilors approved the preparation of an amendment to the zoning plan that will allow the construction. When the footbridge will be built and how much it will cost is still unclear. In addition to this footbridge, the city administration plans to build another one, from Holešovice to Karlín.
The footbridge will be constructed alongside the building of residential buildings. "It is necessary due to potential floods. There are already hundreds of apartments built on the 'kosa' that will be behind the flood barrier during a major flood, and they will not be able to be evacuated without the footbridge," said Mayor Jan Čižinský (Prague 7 for Us) to ČTK.
The preparation of the amendment to the zoning plan could take about a year and a half. Subsequently, the necessary permits will need to be issued by the authorities and a builder selected. The cost will only be known after a contractor is chosen.
The city has already approved the construction and selected the designer for the footbridge from Holešovice over Štvanice to Karlín. On the Holešovice bank of the Vltava, the access to the footbridge will be at Bubenské nábřeží in front of the gate to the Prague Market. In Karlín, it will exit onto a cycle path leading along the flood barrier. The banks are currently connected by a ferry.
