Prague - The network of the Prague metro will expand this week with a new station on line A; there will be a total of 54. Starting Saturday, passengers will be able to use the station created at the Hostivař depot at the intersection of Černokostelecká and Sazečská streets. However, the Depo Hostivař station is not primarily designed to serve the local area, which mainly consists of industrial development. It will mainly relieve the densely populated areas of Skalka, where the terminus is currently located.

"The new station was created by converting a former washing station. Trains will not travel to it through a tunnel, but partly on the surface. It includes a parking lot for 177 cars and a new bus terminal," said today ČTK spokesperson of the Prague Public Transit Company (DP) Michaela Kuchařová.
At the Depo Hostivař station, all bus lines arriving from Kutnohorská and Černokostelecká streets will have their terminus starting Sunday, replacing the current terminus at Skalka. This includes suburban buses and lines from residential areas in Prague 15. The parking lot will mainly serve drivers from Central Bohemia who currently park at the Skalka station.
The new station has the narrowest platform in the Prague metro network. Regular benches did not fit there. The station has one entrance and a small vestibule. According to the DP report, during rush hour, mornings, afternoons, and evenings on workdays, due to technical limitations, only every second train will run to Depo Hostivař. The costs of construction and surrounding modifications amounted to approximately one billion crowns.
Three lines of the Prague metro now have a length of 54 kilometers and 53 stations. According to data published last year, 1.36 million people travel by subway every day. The share of the metro in the total number of transported passengers is 42.7 percent, the remainder is shared by trams and buses.
