Prague - 30 years ago, on September 15, 1983, the unique collection of original wine cellars Plže in the village of Petrov near Strážnice was declared a monument reserve. These cellars, predominantly from the 18th and 19th centuries, are among the most valuable and oldest ensembles of folk architecture in the Czech Republic. They stand out for their originality, distinctive floor plan, and artistic character. The Plže cellars are first mentioned in the 15th century. The first cellars here likely originated as early as the fifth century, but they began to be used as wine cellars much later. In documents from the 16th and 17th centuries, they are mentioned in connection with wartime events when residents sought refuge in these "plžoch." Of the current 63 cellars in the area, 26 are listed as cultural heritage sites. The cellars create alleys that connect into two centers.
