Petřvald (Karviná) - Petřvald in Karviná will start building a new town hall in May at a cost of approximately 34 million korunas. So far, employees have been working in a former family house, which was not entirely adequate, said Deputy Mayor Václav Holeček to ČTK. "We are in a building that is very old and no longer meets certain parameters like accessibility. Our ancestors did not build a town hall like in other villages and towns, so once the council decided that this situation should be addressed, and now it will happen after many years," said Holeček. The first thoughts of building a representative town hall, according to him, were formed as early as 1996. The town will thus receive it after about 20 years, and the construction is expected to be completed next June. "The current state, for example, is not ideal for older or disabled citizens when they have to walk up to the second floor for the financial department. The ceremonial hall is also on the first floor, so accessibility is not maintained here either, which causes certain difficulties," said the deputy mayor. The new town hall is expected to provide more comfortable amenities. It will include a new ceremonial hall, and on the ground floor, people will find, for example, an information center or a cash desk. The town hall employs 22 people, including the full-time mayor and deputy mayor. The construction of the town hall will also include the creation of a smaller space in front of the office, where cultural performances, fairs, or markets can be held. Petřvald, which has about 7,200 inhabitants, does not have a square. The town hall originally expected the construction costs to be around 46 million korunas. However, in the competition for the construction contractor, the price was successfully reduced. Part of the costs will be covered by a European grant, and the rest will be funded by the city's own resources and a loan. According to Holeček, the city has no other loans, and repayments should therefore be manageable.
