Prague - The roots of the first post-war residential area Solidarita will be highlighted by the X10 Theater in their project within this unique urban complex of Prague's Strašnice. The unusual performance will take place on April 8 as the first part of the Parkur cycle, which will seek new forms of theater predominantly in outdoor locations in Prague 10. The event starts at 7:30 PM from the Strašnické Theater, announced dramaturg Lenka Kolihová Havlíková to ČTK.

"The theme of the performance Solidarita, prepared by director Lucie Ferenzová with her creative team, will be the namesake residential area. The heart of the district is indeed the Strašnické Theater, standing on the site where panels for the surrounding buildings were once cast. Here, the audience will gather to embark on a journey through the revived stories of the district," the dramaturg stated.
The original program, balancing on the edge of theatrical documentary, will draw from interviews with witnesses, period magazines, and stories of current residents. The journey will offer several street scenes but will also reveal private spaces and corners that hide behind facades or beneath the surface of the buildings.
The residential area Solidarita, built between 1947-1951 by the eponymous construction cooperative based on a design by a group of architects around František Jech, is considered to be the first Prague residential area in today's sense of the word. Its concept represents a synthesis of Le Corbusier's visions of Radiant Cities, leftist considerations about economical housing, and the traditions of Czech and Swedish modernism and functionalism of the 1930s and 1940s. This urban complex stands out from other residential areas due to its moderate construction and generous concept of public green spaces.
According to the creators of the theater project, the emergence of the residential area, as well as its inhabitants, was marked by a solidarity spirit of post-war reconstruction, but also by the social tensions that ultimately led to the installation of the communist regime.
The evening will also include a photographic exhibition of locations titled Abandoned Places and Silent Testimonies. Among the actors will be Andre Bauer, Anita Krausová, Dana Marková, Lucie Palonciová, Vuk Čelebić, Václav Marhold, and Anna Císařovská.
