Prague - Eight out of ten Czechs dream of living in their own family house with a garden, where each child has their own room. It also includes a terrace, a fireplace, and a pool. Three quarters of people want to live in the Czech Republic, and only eight percent would prefer to live abroad. This is based on a survey conducted by Hypoteční banka in collaboration with the Ipsos agency.
"Czech dreams of housing are quite realistic and achievable," commented the bank's director Jan Sadil. According to the survey, people do not like large changes. If they have spent a significant part of their lives in a big city, they would like to stay there. "Conversely, if they grew up where the foxes say goodnight, they want to continue living in a quiet village," he added. "Czechs are generally very conservative in this regard, even compared to other European nations. People are generally very reluctant to move," added social psychologist Marta Boučková.
Three quarters of Czechs consider the arrangement of their home important, while only 40 percent concern themselves with the environment and neighbors. "Today's era of excessive togetherness does not favor this. Rather than good relationships, we surround ourselves with things that somewhat signal our social status to those around us. For many people, their house, including a pool and a fireplace, is a demonstration of what they have achieved in life," Boučková stated.
One fifth of respondents want their own apartment. Typically, these are young, childless Czechs who have graduated from university and are starting their careers, as well as residents of larger cities. People desiring an apartment require a quick commute to work and entertainment. In contrast, those who wish to live in a family house appreciate that they will finally have space for relaxation and areas to meet with family and friends, said the bank's director of marketing communication Jana Wolfová.
The survey also revealed that more than half of Czechs do not live according to their ideals. Despite their current housing not fully aligning with their dreams, nearly 70 percent of people are satisfied with their living situation.
The survey was conducted in April among 700 respondents aged 25 to 45.
