Orlová (Karviná) - Orlová in Karviná will renovate unused spaces of the former hotel building Doubravan into 121 new apartments thanks to more than 66 million crowns from the State Housing Development Fund. Some of them will be designated for the elderly or disabled individuals. The city currently has over 900 applications for apartments, said Nataša Cibulková, spokesperson for the Orlová City Hall, today to ČTK.
"Part of the apartments will serve people with limited mobility and orientation, especially citizens with mobility, visual, hearing, mental impairments, as well as elderly individuals," she added. The construction, costing nearly 90 million crowns, is expected to begin this year, and the first tenants should move into the building in three years.
The modernized building will include shared spaces for storing bicycles and strollers, a cleaning room, and cellar boxes. The first floor will be rented out for commercial purposes. The shape of the building will remain the same, but architects plan to repair the facade, which should be enlivened with new colors.
The hotel building Doubravan was purchased by the city from VOKD in 2001 and part of the city officials were moved there. The upper floors, however, have been empty for years.
