Brno - Builders are completing the renovation of a building near Brno's main train station, which burned down eleven years ago and has long been neglected. The building will house a shopping center, which the investor plans to open in May. Jakub Horáček from the Letmo shopping center told ČTK. The construction of the center will cost the investor IFM Group hundreds of millions of crowns. The company estimates a return on investment within 12 years. "The final appearance is already visible on the facade from Josefská Street. The front part of the facade will be completed in three weeks," Horáček stated. According to him, the retail units have already been handed over to tenants for completion. The official opening of the center is planned for May second. "We have 80 percent of the space leased," Horáček mentioned. The building that housed the casino burned down in January 2002. In the fire, a croupier and two firefighters who were trying to rescue him lost their lives. Every year, dozens of their colleagues commemorate the tragedy of their peers in front of the building. A memorial to both deceased firefighters will be erected on the outer part of the building facing the main train station.
